On 11th September, 1917, the 6th East Kent (Buffs) battalion of 37 Brigade, 12th Division moved into the front line near Tilloy, a village close to Arras, where they remained until relieved on 15th September. On 14th September, the day on which Reginald Marshall was killed, they took part in a raid on the enemy lines opposite which, according to the battalion diary, was a great success. |
